Pennies for Peace-Week One
Leawood’s Student Leadership has teamed up with the 2nd grade Girl Scout troop to raise money for “Pennies for Peace.” “Pennies for Peace” was started by an American mountain climber who saw the horrible living conditions in Pakistan. Greg Mortenson (author of Three Cups of Tea) saw that students did not have any supplies or a place to learn. When he returned to the US, he started “Pennies for Peace.” Schools all over the nation have collected many thousands of dollars to build schools and supply students with the materials they need to learn. More information can be found on their website www.penniesforpeace.org.

Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson is one of my favorite books. It really made me stop and think about how one person can make a difference in the lives of so many. And, I learned alot about the country of Afghanistan from reading the book.
It's exciting that Leawood 2nd graders are contributing to such a great cause! And helping to make a difference for the children of Afghanistan - especially the girls. Good Job!
I am so excited about this project that our Leawood students have taken on. This truly shows how respectful and responsible our students are with world issues. It is great that Leawood students understand and have the desire to support others that do not have what we have.
I am very impressed with the number of pennis that have been donated. We are only on the second week and I see that over 18,000 penies have already been collected. Keep up the good work Leawood Lions!
Way to go, Leawood! My second grade class is so excited to raise money for this cause!
On behalf of Student Leadership, thank you so much for all the support and pennies you have sent in.
This is such a great learning experience and opportunity for our students at Leawood to take part in.
We hope to make it to $1,000 (100,000 pennies!!) -- Please keep them coming!
